In the eyes of Project 2025, life begins at “the moment of conception” and abortion is NOT healthcare. Period. Full stop. [Page 450] The Mandate has placed a target on abortion pills specifically and lists several ways to add unnecessary roadblocks to accessing these medications. However, they want to do away with mifepristone and misoprostol completely. [Pages 457-459] The Heritage Foundation argues that since abortion is not healthcare, the FDA should “reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs.” [Page 284]

SCOTUS made this far easier with their recent ruling overturning the Chevron doctrine. Now, the judicial system can override the FDA’s approval and yank these medications off of the market at will. It is also worth noting that they intend to use the antiquated Comstock Act to eliminate access to abortion pills. [Page 562]

Federal law prohibits mailing ‘[e]very article, instrument, substance, drug, medicine, or thing which is advertised or described in a manner calculated to lead another to use or apply it for producing abortion.’75 Following the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs, there is now no federal prohibition on the enforcement of this statute. [Page 562]

However, using their faulty interpretation of the law, ALL contraceptives are in their line of fire. Project 2025 plans to remove access to contraception, advocating for the Rhythm Method instead. The Mandate also claims the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is pro-abortion, so they want to rescind all of their government contracts. In addition, they want to “ensure that training for medical professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) and doulas is not being used for abortion training.” [Pages 483-485]

Conservatives know abortion bans are wildly unpopular. So they have become craftier with their wording. At first glance, it is easy to miss their true intentions because they never say the words “national abortion ban.” However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that their ultimate objective is to strip women of their rights, eliminate access to contraceptives, and criminalize abortion completely. Failing to stop Project 2025 will have devastating and fatal consequences for women in America.
